Coach Yvonne Wade has elevated the Rebels indoor and outdoor programs the past two years with a 2018 Mountain West Indoor championship and a pair of second-place finishes during the 2018 outdoor and 2017 indoor campaigns. By virtue of her guidance and team finishes, she was named the Mountain West's Indoor Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
In 2018, the Scarlet & Gray claimed the indoor title with a 14-point advantage over Colorado State – a squad UNLV finished behind by 3.5 points in 2017. In all, the Rebels posted 16 top-eight finishes, which included wins in the 400m (Najia Hudspeth) and 4x400m relay. By virtue of their top-three showings, seven individuals and the relay squad were named to the All-MW Indoor Team.
The Rebels carried over their success into the 2018 outdoor campaign with a second-place finish at the MW Championships. The team won the 800m (Avi’Tal Wilson-Perteete) and 100m hurdles (Jasmyne Graham), and had 18 of its own in the top eight of their respective events. Six individuals as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relays earned spots on the All-MW Outdoor Team.
Additionally, Wade mentored Wilson-Perteete to USTFCCCA Second Team All-America status in both the indoor and outdoor competition, as the freshman posted the second-fastest 800m time clocked by an NCAA student-athlete in 2018. Moreover, Wilson-Perteete finished third overall at the US Junior Outdoor Championships.
