Coach Matt Ellis began his teaching career in Bellarmine Prep's history department in the fall of 1997. He took over as the Bellarmine varsity girls head cross country coach in 1998 (became the head track & field coach in 2006) and has coached three Washington state championship teams.
Ellis has coached the following to individual success: Brie Felnagle, who was second at NXN and ran 4:38 for 1600m in high school (NCAA champion at UNC and ran 4:05 for adidas); Nicole Cochran, who ran 4:49 in high school; Hannah Dirby, a four-time 400m state champion; and Jack Yearian, who ran 4:04 for 1600m in high school.
